Halo

Halo, Sundogs and Parhelic Circle, Karpacz, Poland

Optical phenomena caused by light reflection in hexagonal ice crystals: 22 deg halo (the circle), sundogs (bright spots outside the halo) and parhelic circle. Observed in Karpacz, Sudety, Poland in January 2012. Temperature was about -12 C

No temperature can scare you off, it seems:)
The shot is great. It also shows how much depends on "the optics". The more sensitive the lense, the more you see. Sometimes it would be easier to see less, though.
Take care, the Five of U,

The eye is the lens :) the phenomena here were visible to the naked eye as clearly as one can see a rainbow. But no one around me at the ski-field seemed to notice or care. Apart from the 22deg halo which is relatively common, the sundogs and parhelic circle are really rare, at least in Poland. It's just a matter of keeping an open eye I think, wide open ;)
