Smoke

Every year my sister’s family organize a farewell-to-summer-bonfire. Fantastic location to meet the extended family and friends. It is a growing event as guests can have their guests and the number of children keeps growing. Anyway, lots of photographic opportunities, with smoke and light among them. All you need is freshly cut wood ;)

I wanted to photograph this place at sunrise for a long time. Since it is a two hours drive and 1,5 hours hike from my home, going there just for the sunrise did not make much sense. So instead of just the sunrise there was full moon, roaring bucks and the sunrise. We bivouacked next to the path visible just below the trees. But before going to sleep we tried to photograph the moonlit scenery from the rock platform of the middle Pilgrim. The obvious choice was the moon veiled by quickly passing clouds but the results were disappointing - the moving cloud-veil recorded as burned out and all the detail was lost. The above photograph was taken with the moon behind us and you can see our shadows in the middle bottom, below the third Pilgrim.

This is where we were shooting from - the middle Pilgrim, Down below are the lights of Karpacz and if this was TV you could hear the roaring bucks.
Thank you Wojtek and Arnold for this great adventure!
Dear readers, stay tuned for the morning session.
