Symmetry is the aesthetics of fools

Ślężański Park Krajobrazowy, Polska
As far as I could find in my quick search, the title is a quote from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, but I remember my father in law quoting it quite often, when we discussed photography or architecture. This image is from today's walk with my children in the massif of Ślęża. We'd chosen a side-path but the place was empty anyway. It was quiet and peaceful.

Mount Ślęża

The workers of the LG factory in Biskupice Podgórne get such views every day (weather dependent, of course). There's a long alley lined with trees, a long forgotten road running parallel to the factory front, and that alley was where I and my son chose to walk. It's the one you can see here. So we walked the whole length of this old road and stood there and gazed and then walked back to the car. A very nice evening indeed.

No horizon

On a hot summer day the atmospheric haze and approaching storm made the horizon disappear, the land blended with the sky. To explore the realm of the almost featureless and minimal I climbed to the top of Slęża, a lonely mountain with excellent panoramic possibilities (my favourite time to go is the evening when everyone else is going down...). I was also hoping to capture the approaching storm but it came too late. Instead I rescued a young couple who went down the mountain to the wrong side, and being faced with the approaching storm and darkness were more than happy to accept my offer to drive them to their car.

Riders in the storm

Last Saturday I drove to Mt Ślęża, south of Wrocław together with my son and daughter for a bike ride there. As we were leaving it was hot and sunny but as we approached the mountain we were caught in a small but violent storm. We did have a short ride after all and got back to the car just as another rain approached. It wasn't much of a ride but the nature's show was breathtaking and the kids loved it.
We were packed for a short trail ride, so I left my big camera at home and only took the small G11 with me, just in case. Well, it proved to be THE case and I'd regret it for ever had I not taken it.
