Heavy snowfall yesterday. I went photographing armed with an umbrella to stop snowflakes falling on the lens. It worked pretty well but I found manual focusing in mittens a really hard task. It never ceases to amaze me how filtered our vision is. While taking this picture I concentrated on the overall composition and only noticed the patterns created by the overhead cables later during processing.
And, by the way, it is a colour photograph ;)

Thin layer of snow allows the centuries long signs of land use to stand out against the white backdrop. As if one could click a box and all other layers in the map were turned off.

A couple of months ago I was showing posts from this blog to our friends Isabel and Dean. Their remark was an eye-opener for me - that most of the images are from winter time. It is true. I love an element of in-obviousness in photography, Autumn and winter aura lends itself very nicely here.
An interesting landscape feature can be seen in the photograph below. A sunken wall, delineating pastures from lawns in front of a hall, forms a barrier for animals like sheep, yet does not obstruct views to the valley beyond. Clever trick. I assume the modern fence is the blessing of the health and safety regulations.
