Glass Pavilions, Sheffield Botanical Garden

Glass Pavilions, Sheffield Botanical Garden
These pavilions were an original feature of the Gardens when it opened in 1836. The local architect was Benjamin Broomhead Taylor,  who worked closely with Robert Marnock (the first curator), Joseph Paxton (gardener to the Duke of Devonshire at Chatsworth) and John Claudius Loudon (a leading landscape gardener of the day) on the project. As today, the three domes were linked by ridge-and-furrow glasshouses.
The Pavilions were restored in 2005.

Newington Rd, Sheffield

Newington Rd, Sheffield, UK
Heavy snowfall yesterday. I went photographing armed with an umbrella to stop snowflakes falling on the lens. It worked pretty well but I found manual focusing in mittens a really hard task. It never ceases to amaze me how filtered our vision is. While taking this picture I concentrated on the overall composition and only noticed the patterns created by the overhead cables later during processing.
And, by the way, it is a colour photograph ;)

Little Miss Trouble

To get a reasonable look off a child that actively poses you need some kind of trick. Like getting her to make faces and snap the normal look in between, when she's rushing to see the results.

Magpie and Moon

This shot crowned our afternoon walk around Sheffield with dear friends from Lincoln. Many promising photographs to follow the water-colour theme and a pleasant stroll that took to places never visited before.
